There are a lot of “best friends forever”-characters in anime, but if I had to nail them all down to my favorites, Yuno and Miyako from Hidamari Sketch would probably be somewhere around the top.
Starring in one of studio Shaft’s best franchises, they complement each other nicely. Yuno is a little shy and normal, while Miyako is more outgoing and weird. When they are together though, new sides to the characters are shown.
Out of everyone living at the Hidamari Apartments, there are six, Miyako is definitely my favorite. Miyako may seem weird and random, but is very often the most caring and understanding character from Hidamari Sketch. She often watches over Yuno, who is a bit on the clumsy side, and takes care of her when she is not watching. If Yuno falls asleep, she does her best to not wake her up, while trying to put her to bed and fix the room.
She is such a fun and lively character that there is not anything about her that you can dislike! The energetic side never becomes too much or annoying and she always has that very mature side of her.
So when a new set of special episodes aired this November, I was super happy. New episodes of Hidamari Sketch! And more Miyako too! Even the simplest things as going to an art museum or washing curtains are fun in the company of the residents of Hidamari Apartments. Together they are a perfect group of characters, playing off each other nicely. But the ones that are the best will always be Yuno and Miyako. They fit each other perfectly.

I remember a few instances where Yuno had to hit Miyako in the face. Sometimes Miyako can be rather inconsiderate, but it’s often used to comedic effect…
But more often she is considerate towards Yuno is very subtle ways, which is pretty awesome.
I don’t remember her being inconsiderate actually. Yuno and Miyako has this playful relationship where they toy with each other (mostly Miyako though, haha).
Yes, I love that Hidamari Sketch, a “simple” slice of life, is very subtle. I love the ending for Hidamari Sketch x SP. It shows how much everyone care about Yuno!
Well… maybe instead of “inconsiderate”, she’s really just making fun of Yuno.
Yeah, Yuno’s really a blessed girl.
