Winter 2012 Previews

Now that the ”12 Days”-project is over, it is time to get serious again. Or, at least, a little serious. Christmas time is relax time for me, a chance to recover slightly from the dreaded school. However, this time, we were loaded with different essays, so in the following week there will not be any lengthy and insightful editorial post for you to read. I am deeply sorry about that, but hey, on the 9th of January there will be a fun little thing starting. And after that, it is back to business as usual! In the meantime, let us check out what the winter season 2012 has in store for us!

Above you can see the chart with all the shows airing and over at Random Curiosity you can, as always, see a very informative post about each and every of them. This means I will not go through every little show, but instead focus on the ones I find interesting.

What I already had the bad luck of watching

Kyousogiga – A random mess which at least looked cool. Supposedly created to sell merchandise.

Hidan no Aria Special – Just avoid it, okay?

What I will watch

Daily Lives of High School Boys – If Scamp’s post or the short previews of it have not convinced you already, hopefully me mentioning it will do so. If you did not like Kimi to Boku because of guys not acting like guys, perhaps this is for you! If you also like wacky comedy, that is.

Another – Oh, look, it is another anime by P.A. “we can animate” Works! While they have yet to prove they can create a good story, they still win me over thanks to their magnificent animation. And now they are doing horror with character designs by Ito Noizoi, the artist from Haruhi? I am in for another anime by P.A. Works.

Kill Me Baby

Nisemonogatari – Shaft. Shaft. Shaft. Oh, and a sequel to Bakemonogatari. But mostly Shaft.

Ano Natsu de Matteru – J.C. Staff is creating an anime original? During a season they will air not one, not two, but six different shows simultaneously? That is taking a huge risk, especially when you consider that J.C. Staff tend to dip in quality from time to time. But an anime original by them sounds way to interesting to skip, as the fellow J.C. Staff fan I am.

And that is it, this is all I will watch during the winter 2011 season. If I had to choose some more, it would probably be Area no Kishi since I have not watched a sports anime in a while and Rinne no Lagrange for the same reason (well, mechas instead of sports). Five shows are not much considering I usually follow around eight, but this will also allow me to watch some older anime. But then again, things can change.

As for what I will blog, it is still undecided. It might depend on what Crunchyroll picks up in the end, and so far they have not done an announcement regarding their airing it seems. But perhaps Ano Natsu? Any special show you readers want me to cover?

Also, I almost forgot. There actually are two more additional shows I am going to watch this season, but that is when they have finished airing. These are two sequels: Natsume Yuujinchou Shi and Amagami SS+ Plus. Some shows are simply better when watched as a marathon. Perhaps BlackRock Shooter too, but the OVA is still unwatched. It looks like style over substance.

And besides, there are some sweet OVAs and Specials too. Usagi Drop, Toradora, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei… holy mother of God, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is back!? BEST SEASON EVER

With J.C. Staff so “busy”, it looks like ToAru Majutsu no Index III will have to wait 😦

No Zero no Tsukaima?! That’s preposterous! 😀

    I definitely agree!

And, while I was initially wary of that Daily life of high school boys things (god, we need to find an abreviation for it) I was sold the moment I heard it’ll have Gintama’s director. Definitely looking forward to it now.

But, like you, I end up with only 7 shows, I watch at least double that amount usually, thankfully, a lot of things are still continuing from previous season.

You have a great taste! 😀

Danshi Nichijou, perhaps? Boys Daily? Daily Boys? Sounds a bit silly though…

I actually forgot, but there are two seasons from fall that will keep airing. Mirai Nikki and Bakuman 2, so I guess five new shows will do for me.

    What about MILKY HOLMES?!!!

I’ll probably be watching Another and Nisemonogatari since they both look good. Ano Natsu is iffy in my opinion. It’s by the same people that created the Onegai series, and while I like Onegai Twins, Onegai Teacher was just slightly above average for me.

Another, Daily High School Boys, and Rinne No Lagrange are some shows I’m looking forward to. I also think Area No Kishi might good too.

Besides sequels and such, I think I’m most interested in Kill Me Baby for its SM vibes. I’m also thinking of picking up Shaft’s Nisemonogatari, so I guess I should find some time to watch Bakemonogatari.

Kill Me Baby has an epic trailer, that is all. I can’t help but feel it’s a bold move of J.C. Staff.

You should probably watch Bakemonogatari before Nisemonogatari!

I, for one, shall be watching: Recorder to Randoseru, Nisemonogatari, Mouretsu Pirates and either Rinne no Lagrange or Daily Lives of High School Boys. It’s been tough to choose this season, unlike all of the other seasons, nothing except Nisemonogatari has lept out at me.
Also, there seems to be an even higher concentration of moe than usual. Moe in itself isn’t a bad thing, I’ve just come to associate it with weaker storylines…
The only reason I’m watching Mouretsu Pirates and Recorder to Randoseru is for their unusual concepts…
I hope I’ll be pleasantly surprised but, something tells me I won’t be…

    • Marow says:

Yes, moe and cute appeal is much more common today than, say, ten years ago. It’s what currently sells, so that’s why there are so much of it. I would make more daring shows with “big ideas”.

On the other hand, this new wave of anime is great for those who like slice of life, like me 😛

It’s tough being part of the minority…

I was going to start Another as I love shows with generous helpings of suspense but, my gut warned me against it…
It was my gut that told me to bail on Guilty Crown at the last second so I decided to trust it once more! Gotta be careful choosing shows when I’ve sworn against not dropping a single one! Nice to see not everyone’s as pessimistic as me though!

Always trust your gut, or at least, as often as possible. It was right about Guilty Crown! I hope it’s wrong about Another though…

Never drop a show, huh? I’m also like that, but I tend to drop shows sometimes, but it’s rare. Bad shows will only strengthen you! 😀
