Hey, do you know what time it is? It is anime season preview time! And this time, it is for the spring season, the wonderful wet new beginning of the year! So what are we waiting for? Let’s get cracking!

Above us we have the chart over the season as usual. And while we are all waiting for the super preview over Random Curiosity, have some other great previews I highly recommend:

Perhaps I will do a huge list, going through every little show that is airing, next season, but for now, this short preview covering my most interesting shows will do! Here we go!

What I will watch

Hyouka

21 episodes | Mystery | Light Novel | Kyoto Animation | 2012

Kyoto Animation? Well, that is more than enough reason to check this show out. KyoAni has never let me down and considering their high animation quality, Hyouka will definitely be a pleasure to the eyes. The only worrisome part is that it is adapted from a mystery light novel series called Kotenbu and we all know how boring mystery light novels usually are (except Un-Go, because Un-Go is awesome). But maybe that is the reason they decided to go with it: because it is special.

But what every fan of KyoAni really wonder is: when will they do a third season or a second movie of Haruhi?

Medaka Box

? episodes | Action, Comedy, Ecchi, School, Shounen | Manga | Gainax | 2012

The only reason I am going to watch this is spelled N-i-s-i-o I-s-i-n. This will be my first venture into his peculiar writing style outside of the Monogatari series, which makes me curious. Will I like it or not? Only time will tell.

Kimi to Boku 2

13 episodes | Comedy, Romance, School, Slice of Life | Manga | J.C. Staff | 2012

“Kimi to Boku, the show with five boys doing cute things? You got a bad taste.”

I can already feel people staring at me in disgust for loving this. I placed the first half (this is actually not a sequel despite the “2”, but a second half with a long gap in-between, the new thing in anime) from fall season 2011 on the 4th place of my “Anime Bloggers’ Choice Anime Awards 2011” list.

This is a very warming show that grew with each episode, showcasing some really sweet romantic scenes that are a rare find in anime nowadays. Now, Daily Live of High School Boys might be crazier and more “boyish” to many people, but who says boys cannot be calm and gentle? Kimi to Boku 2 will be great. Trust me.

Sakamichi no Apollon

? episodes | Drama, Romance, School, Slice of Life, Josei | Manga | Tezuka Productions, noitaminA | 2012

Tsuritama

? episodes | Sci-Fi | Anime Original | A-1 Pictures, noitaminA | 2012

Yuki has no friends.
Haru is an alien who wants to go fishing.
Natsuki is normal.
Akira is an Indian who marries a duck.

So together they save the world by fishing. Or something. It sounds wonderful.

What I will save till it is finished

Ozuma

6 episodes | Sci-Fi | Anime Original | LandQ Studios | 2012

Leiji Matsumoto, the man behind things such as Galaxy Express 999 and Captain Harlock, is back with an unpublished work. So, yes, this is kind of legendary. And it will most likely be better to watch finished.

Speaking of which, I should watch the aforementioned shows. I remember watching some episode of Galaxy Express 999 when I was a really little kid, but that is all. Memories.

Space Bros aka Uchuu Kyoudai

? episodes | Sci-Fi, Slice of Life, Seinen | Manga | A-1 Pictures | 2012

To be honest, I am still on the fence with this one. At first I wanted to watch this, but then I heard it was going to air for a year. The only longer shows I watch weekly are ones I am sure that I want to watch. Perhaps I will watch it when it is finished. I mean, it is bros in space!

Eureka Seven AO

? episodes | Action, Drama, Mecha, Sci-Fi | Anime Original | Bones | 2012

I love Eureka Seven. I finished re-watching it only a couple of days ago, series and movie. The series is great and finished with a proper closure, giving enough answers while leaving things open to interpretation.

The movie is interesting in itself, as it could either be a prequel, an alternative version or a parallel world. You have to choose yourself. But the fact that it was not needed remains. It was superfluous. And I worry that this series also is. I do not like unnecessary sequels.

As for why I will wait till it is finished (but most likely I will fail to restrain myself), it is because Eureka Seven was such a slow show. I doubt it would be satisfactory to watch it on a weekly basis. So if AO even remotely resembles the original, it will be a pain to watch one episode at a time.

God tier

Shirokuma Cafe

? episodes | Comedy | Manga | Studio Pierrot | 2012

Polar bears, pandas and penguins.

Sakurai Takahiro, Jun Fukuyama and Hiroshi Kamiya.

  1. Kai says:

I probably won’t be able to watch much since I’m still trying to catch up with past season.

    • Marow says:

This is why this season is so perfect for me. I will only have about 5 new things to watch and Hunter x Hunter (and Kill me Baby, if it won’t end soon). I will be able to watch older stuff!

Hope you have something good to watch 🙂

  2. wilio says:

Well, these are generally that anime that I will want to watch. Especially for Sakamichi no Apollon which I really, really want it to be good, but still scared that it might turn out as a flop.

The only show that you didn’t mention that is an absolute to watch for me is Saki: episode of side-A. Why? Simply because I thought the first season was fun.

  3. Yerocha says:

This season is a tricky one for me. I can see a lot of shows that look interesting, but I’m finding it hard to tell which ones will be good and which won’t. Right now the only ones I’ll watch for sure are the noitaminA shows and Jormungand, and I’ll wait for the first episode reviews before deciding what else.

    • Marow says:

The trailer for Jormungang looked a bit boring, but perhaps it’s good?

Shining Hearts, Tasogare, Sankarea, Kanojo X… they could all be good, but I’ll play it safe this season 🙂

  4. illogicalzen says:

I’m still looking at possible shows, although I dont think I will be watching Eureka Seven AO, it is superfluous as you say and unnecessary, plus the story seems to be exactly the same as the original series. Couple of series based on manga that I quite like, so will probably give those a look.

  5. Mira says:

All this hype on Shirokuma! This is honestly one of the best preview pics I’ve seen of the show ahahaha! Just curious though, did you purposely leave out writing about Sakamichi no Apollon?

  6. Hurvilo says:

You? Staying away from Eureka Seven?

Yeah, good luck with that! 😀

As for me, I will most likely watch way too many shows. As usual. But the series I am TRULY looking forward to – as in thinking they might actually be really awesome – are Uchuu Kyoudai, Fate Zero 2, Apollon, that Lupin-show and (possibly) Hyouka. And Jormungand.

    Great times ahead!

  7. Ty-chama says:

Your image for Shirokuma cafe is win, it looks like Sakurai Takahiro is pimping out Jun Fukuyama and Hiroshi Kamiya…
Great season preview, thanks for giving mine some acknowledgement!

  8. feal87 says:

What is that Shirokuma cafè?! It’s scary! >_<

  9. Nopy says:

Sakamachi no Apollon and Hyouka look like they might be interesting. I’m also planning on checking out Accel World and Shining Hearts for their artwork and character designs.

  10. Justin says:

I’d say Sakamachi and Space Bros are my must watches. I shall also be checking out a show you left off your list: Zetman!

  11. mikazuki says:

Your choices are interesting. I’m going to watch Hyouka, Sekamichi no Apollon, Tsuritama, Kimi to boku (only if I’ll manage to end the first season :)),I’ ve just started Shirokuma cafe and I’m watching also Poyo poyo. Space Bros sound interesting but I don’t know if i’ll watch it

    • Marow says:

Sounds like we’re watching about the same stuff then 🙂
Hope you’re able to finish Kimi to Boku soon! It was a great show.

  12. Mushyrulez says:

    >Medaka Box

MY RESPECT, WHERE HAS IT GONE
