Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda is a series about the little kid Kate trying to achieve world domination with a ragtag bunch of people in various silly outfits, however ridiculous that sounds. The third episode starts fairly normal until the gang decides to eat out in a restaurant.
Kate is just about to dig in when a person at a neighboring table asks if it’s okay to smoke, whereupon Kate flips out and holds a grand speech about how smoking sucks until eventually kicking the poor fellow out of the restaurant in a fit. Seconds later the first steps toward world domination are taken: it’s time to wipe out all of the filthy smokers.
I cannot even start do describe this episode. It’s more or less insanely fantastic, taking such an absurd idea and going with it without being in poor taste. A young girl manages to sway the masses and the Smoke Busters are formed, creating more or less a miniscule civil war among the citizens. All because she didn’t want to smell poop while eating – or, as she later realized, something far worse as only one of the two involves inhaling toxic fumes.
This whole episode was so bizarre I cannot help but love it.
To answer the question in one of your tags: yes. This is exactly how non-smokers feel about smokers. Or, at least, it’s how I feel about them when they smoke anywhere close to me.
Time to start a rebellion then, eh?
I’m not particularly keen on smoke myself, to be honest.
AS iblessall said, yes. Whenever (no exceptions) someone lights a cigarette near me at a place I spend time at (bus stop, bench, restaurant etc.), I literally imagine killing them and think how all smokers should be wiped from the earth. And I am usually a very gentle and sensitive guy. I am not even joking… I wish I was.
I… I think you need to get that habit out of your system. It’s probably not a good thing to have such thoughts.
I loved that both the smokers and the non smokers are put in a bad light in this episode. If you don’t smoke, then smokers being near you sucks big time. But to then get so worked up that you attack and oppress them, that’s so extreme that I loved it.
Kate’s speech to the non smokers is one of my favourite moments in the anime. It’s not as awesome as the treasure dance, but it’s still fantastic!
Indeed, both sides suck in the end! Never thought the episode would revolve around this when it started. It seemed so normal at first.
I had completely forgotten about the treasure dance! Now that was also a completely random moment. 😀
An all-out war triggered by opinions on smoking? Hey, take an absurd premise and have fun with it. It’s what makes animation so wonderful – one can examine absurd situations like this.
Yeah, I love how animation allows for the craziest of ideas to turn into reality.
This has to be one of the best public service episode in any media ever…..
Haha, perhaps? I’m not entirely sure I could call it public service, though, as it’s not trying to educate the viewers as much as entertain them.
But you have to admit, they make their messages pretty loud and clear…
