My Favorite Anime of 2014

It has been quite a while since a post appeared on the blog, hasn’t it? Hopefully there are still some readers out there eager for some more stuff! Feeling a bit stiff when it comes to writing, I figured the best way to get it all started is to revisit my favorite anime of 2014! After this, I hope to slowly return to form.

Truth is, I haven’t seen a lot of anime lately. We’re a few months into the new year and I have only seen two new series, which is a new record for me. Instead, the time has been spent watching older, completed, anime whenever the urge has kicked in. As a result, it has made me feel rather distant to the anime community.

When it comes to the year 2014 in anime, my stance is that it has been a fine year.

Anime I Love – Angel Beats!

Angel Beats! was the first anime I cried to. No, scratch that. It was the first anime that left me utterly emotionally devastated after finishing the final episode. There had been emotional anime before, plenty of them in fact, but none hit home as well as Angel Beats! did.

The Best Anime of 2013

2013 has been a strange year of anime for me. For starters, there are only ten anime series that I feel genuinely soft for and out of those four happen to be leftovers from the previous year.

In addition, almost all of the anime on this list has one thing in common: they are “light and fluffy”. They could be labelled as “slice of life” and are generally heartwarming. Relaxing, happy and fun.

12 Days of Christmas #05 – Singing a Love Song

This was easily one of the sweetest and most genuine moments in anime of 2013.

Anime I Love – GJ-bu

It may not even have been a full year since GJ-bu ended, but nonetheless it has managed to find a place deep within my heart.

Something has been wrong with me lately. There is this little anime I cannot get out of my head. With each new day I think of it more and more. I become all excited and happy about it for no apparent reason.

I think I may have gone mad.

GJ-bu is the Best Anime of the Season

Currently I am watching too much anime, so I did the most rational thing to do and picked up yet another series.

Turned out that GJ-bu actually is the best anime of the season.

Why Eureka Seven AO is Bad #03 (End) – It Goes Against Everything Eureka Seven Stood For

Note: This post contains spoilers on Eureka Seven AO and Eureka Seven. If you have not seen both of them, avoid this post.

It is okay if a sequel wants to be different from the original series.

It can have a different story, different characters or different themes.

But it should not go against everything the original series stood for, completely disregarding its message, unless there is a good reason for it.

This was the final straw for Eureka Seven AO.

In every other post I have pointed out what Eureka Seven AO did wrong on its own.

Now let me tell how you it completely ruined the ending Eureka Seven.

12 Days of Christmas 2011 – #12 – Like Love

Nichijou is easily one of the best anime that has aired this year, shattering my low expectations after the little humble OVA to pieces a gazillion times over. Featuring some of the most random scenes I have seen in anime, reminding me of the Internet for some strange reason, I instantly fell in love with it.
